Disney Vacation Club Review

One of the main reasons my wife and I were on the fence about joining the Disney Vacation Club is we did not want to be forced into “vacationing” with the kids every single year. Let’s face it, sometimes it’s the kids themselves driving us so crazy that we just need to get away — from them. I don’t want to sound like a parent that takes trips and pawns his kids on the in-laws, but anyone who has kids knows good and well what I mean when I say sometimes I need a “kid free” vacation! Some parents self medicate, and others get a few days away. Whatever works.

Now before you go getting worked into a frenzy, please know that the kids have only not went on one vacation with us. Best week of my life (haha). Anyway this brings me to my point. I usually have a point, though many times you have to read pretty deep in the post to find it. I digress. Oh yea, there was a point. The point is, as Disney Vacation Club members the world is our playground. I mean that almost literally. We can choose from over 500 destinations to travel to! Yes, Aruba is one of them. Aruba, Hawaii, London, Paris, Vegas, just to name a few. Having choices like this is what makes doing Disney Vacation Club Reviews so fun! The best part is, along with the ultra exotic destinations, you get the Disney stamp of approval. What I mean by that is you will get the assurance of Disney quality resorts, cleanliness, friendliness, you know, all those things you come to expect when you visit Disney!

I am not going to sit here and pretend I’ve done my due diligence researching other timeshare opportunities. I am however pretty certain that most, if not all of them do not give you the opportunity to schedule your vacation any time you want to go, and any place you want to stay. In another post I praise Disney’s flexibility. Scenarios such as this are what set the Disney Vacation Club above the others. My parents had a time share in Hawaii – an absolutely beautiful resort, but the only problem was they had a set week in which they had to go. The only way they were able to modify that time span is if they were able to switch dates with another time share holder for that particular place. It’s awkward trying to trade vacation dates with people you do not know. In addition to that, this place, albeit stunning (and it was stunning) was the only place they were allowed to stay. They never had the opportunity to try something new.

To me there is value in choices. Heck, half of the fun is in the planning. Every year we get to decide who we want to bring with us. We get to decide where we want to go, and when we want to do it. Oh, before I forget I should warn you that this can turn into a problem. I will offer some advice, however, that should take care of that. Let’s take a situation, a hypothetical situation of course. Let’s say the woman of the house has her heart set on a Disney Cruise. We’ll pretend she was planning to borrow next years points so she could get a second room because she promised her best friend and 2 kids that, yes, they too were coming along this year. This would not be the best time for the husband to tell her that he was planning to book this years trip in Vegas. I’m not saying that this happened to us. I’m also not saying that it didn’t. All you need to take away from this is that the fun is in the planning. And with the Disney Vacation Club, planning your trip is one of the main attractions!

So in the beginning I asked if you’ve ever been to Aruba? Of course I could have replaced “Aruba” with roughly 500 different destinations. You see by joining the Disney Vacation Club it doesn’t have to be all mickey, all the time. On the other hand, it can be all Mickey, all the time. The offerings are so robust. No wonder when you buy into the club they give you 50 years of membership. You need all that time to be able to experience less than half of what DVC has to offer.
