Vacation Flexibility

I know we touched on the flexibility of the Disney Vacation Club in a previous post, but I think it is necessary to dedicate an entire post to the topic. It is the duty of Disney Vacation Club Reviews to highlight and tell you about all of the different aspects of being a member.

Disney Vacation Club members not only get to choose when they will take their annual trip, they also get to choose where they will go, how long they will stay, and what type of resort they will stay in that year. I don’t know of any other timeshare that offers any of those things, let alone ALL of those things. My parents have a timeshare in Hawaii, but they don’t get to choose when they go. That is already determined for them. They do not get to choose where they will stay. That is already determined for them. That’s what makes DVC so great! This year you might choose to stay on the Disney Boardwalk with just your family. Next year you might go to Italy with your family and your best friend (and their family). The year after that, a Disney cruise! You decide. That’s the beauty of it.

A membership gives you 50 years of vacations. You heard me correct. 50 years! Obviously 50 years of Disney quality vacations will cost some money. I’ll talk about that in my next post. I will tell you now though that Disney has their own financing program. If you choose to use them, the term is 10 years. That’s what it is for us anyway. You can go shorter than that if you want to put more money down or pay a higher monthly payment. Financing is personal and you will do what is best for your budget. I’m simply telling you that Disney offers financing so it’s not like you have to come up with the money up front.

Back to flexibility. Where you choose to deed is important. Let’s say you choose to deed at Bay Lake Tower. I will use Bay Lake in so many of my examples because that’s where we are and we LOVE it there. (This example will not be realistic in six months because Bay Lake is filling up fast!). Anyway, you choose to deed at Bay Lake. This means that you can make reservations at Bay Lake up to 11 months in advance. Members that deed elsewhere cannot make a reservation at Bay Lake beyond 7 months out. The reason for this is so members can “come home” when they want to come home. A popular place like Bay Lake Tower will book very quickly, so as a deed holder with the ability to book 4 months faster than anyone else; you’re essentially assured a room if you want it. Likewise, if and when you choose to stay someplace other than where you deed, you are not able to book beyond 7 months out. Not to worry though, Disney is putting up new state of the art facilities at a good pace so there should always be cool new places to stay for the week.

I hope this post illustrates just how flexible this membership is. It really does allow you to plan your vacation anytime you want to go. If you want to plan around school breaks, go during Christmas, surprise your family and plan spur of the moment, go anytime! If you want to go to Animal Kingdom this year with the kids, then next year go to Hawaii with just your spouse, you can do that! If you want to get a 1 bedroom (sleeps about 8 comfortably), and the following year get a Grand Villa that sleeps 2 families, you can do that too!
