Okay, Okay, I know I put alot of emphasis on joining the Disney Vacation Club, I do however realize that the DVC is not for everyone. Hopefully the plethora of Disney Vacation Club Reviews can act as a guide in your decision on whether or not joining is right for you.
- The Disney Vacation Club is expensive.
Sometimes it’s not a question of whether or not the DVC is worth it, but more of a “can we afford it” question. During the sales pitch you will discover that your Disney Vacation Club representative will do everything he or she can to make the deal work. Even so, the package will be too steep for some at that particular time in their lives. We used our tax refund to come up with the down payment of $3,000. The rest we financed. We have a monthly payment of about $300 for the next 10 years. That sounds like alot. It is! Here is the justification though. This payment ENSURES we go on a beautiful vacation EVERY year. We think of it as contributing to our vacation fund, because, well, that’s exactly what it is.
- Kids are just not at the right age.
Disney is the happiest place on earth. Tell that to the 16 year old that you brought with you who told you repeatedly that he didn’t want to come. Disney IS the happiest place on earth for the majority, but anyone who has been will tell you it’s not difficult to spot someone clearly not enjoying them-self. Best case scenario is bringing your kids between the ages of 6 and 11. If you have such circumstances in your home, Disney Vacation Club should be mandatory. Don’t get me wrong, sure there will be the family of 8 with 3 teenagers having a blast. All I am saying is if you have kids older than 12 – 13, they might not want to go. In such a case, why spend the money?
Someone in your family is a teacher.
Huh? Why shouldn’t teachers join the Disney Vacation Club? I’ll tell you why. Remember when I told you Disney was the happiest place on earth? Well, Disney is also the busiest place on earth. Not all the time though. The thing about teachers is they usually cannot take a week off whenever they want. Since they get February Break, Spring Break, Summer Break, Christmas Break, etc, it is frowned upon if they take an additional week off outside of the many scheduled breaks. You do not want to go to Disney during Spring Break. The lines are long, the fast pass system cannot even help these crowds. Trying to get a table to eat lunch in one of the parks is near impossible. It’s just a great time to avoid being there. Unfortunately this is the time teachers would have to go. I say, no thank you!
Not having the finances to join is certainly the biggest obstacle for most families. To that I say this: If you’re family is one that wants to vacation every year, then the payment should not be an obstacle. Adding up the monthly payments is about what you would spend on a vacation in one lump sum anyway. Heck, in some cases the DVC is much less than what you would pay for a trip to the Caribbean, or some other tropical resort. What you get with DVC is far greater too, in my opinion. Rooms at Bay Lake Tower run about $900/night if you are not a DVC member. Imagine staying in a room like that! You get to when you join the club. Imagine sitting on your deck at nighttime with your family facing Magic Kingdom while fireworks light up the sky. Exactly. See ya there!
